On 26 May 2026, academic excellence took centre stage at the Minta square in the Upper-Sanaga division. As part of its corporate social responsibility programme, COTCO rewarded 230 learners from seven primary and five secondary schools in the subdivision. The awardees, who were selected based on their academic performance during the 2025–2026 school year, received kits containing textbooks and school bags. Valued at 8.5 million CFA francs in total, this donation aims to support families while fostering a culture of hard work and achievement.

On behalf of the entire local educational community, Minta’s mayor, Jean Lambert Nang, thanked COTCO for recognising the subdivision’s top pupils. “None of the pupils receiving awards today will forget this day: 26 May 2026. The name of COTCO will remain etched in their memories throughout their lives. It is for all these reasons that we extend our heartfelt and sincere thanks to COTCO for its generosity and commitment to supporting good education”, he said.

Jules S. Wack Mballa, public affairs manager and representative of COTCO’s General Manager, Jean-Paul Simo Njonou, noted that this initiative, running since 2007, reflects the company’s commitment to education. “This initiative recognises academic excellence and encourages healthy competition among pupils, motivating them to work harder in future school years. It also supports the government’s education policy, which emphasises academic excellence”, he added.

For Gervais Brice Meye, subdivisional officer of Minta, these awards are a powerful motivational tool. “These prizes will certainly boost the recipients’ morale”, he said, urging the pupils to continue their efforts.

The emotion was also evident among the recipients. “I now have my own books and a new school bag. I won’t have to borrow my classmates’ books to do my homework anymore. My parents are relieved”, said Francine Belinga, a pupil at the Secondary School Vela. Ernest Messe, a pupil at the Secondary School Industrial and Commercial Technical Minta, said proudly: “My mother told me she was proud of me. This award encourages me to do even better”.

Through the 20th edition of the school prize awards ceremony for the various subdivisions along the pipeline, COTCO reaffirms its commitment to long-term investment in education. The company is convinced that the success of young Cameroonians is one of the cornerstones of development for the communities living along the Chad-Cameroon pipeline
